MMCH BRANDING DESIGN
COMPUTING THROUGH THE FRAME
This project aims to establish a comprehensive brand identity system for The Monash Museum of Computing History (MMCH). Utilising the computer monitor as a super-symbol, it reconstructs the museum’s visual identity for the digital era.
From early monochrome displays to contemporary multi-dimensional interfaces, the monitor has witnessed computing’s evolution and the transformation of human perception. This design centres on the core visual concept of the ‘display frame’, distributing the letters MMCH across the screen’s four corners to symbolise the systemic interconnection between Memory, Machine, Computing, and History.
The brand aesthetic employs a minimalist, direct, and vintage-inspired visual language. Utilising typographic rhythms with monochromatic retro imagery and low-saturation colour palettes, it constructs a ‘human warmth within rationality’. The entire system combines static and dynamic elements to embody the rhythm, logic, and aesthetics of computational culture.
